A Proven Process for a Successful Residential Construction Project
As a full-service design/build firm, we have created a system and process that allows you to still carry on with your life in the middle of a significant disruption. Our team is with you every step of the way, from envisioning your dream through project completion.
When you choose to work with Moss-Marlow you will have the full support of a Design Consultant, Interior Designer and Project Manager, as well as that of our office and production staff. We have made the process very user-friendly while providing guidance and consultation along the way as you make decisions about plans, selections, colors, etc.
Every project begins with a dream – a vision of what your new home will look like upon completion of the construction work. It’s our job to make your dream a reality!

1. You Have a Vision
You’re ready to build the home of your dreams, but you need to know how much it will cost and how long it will take…
2. Contact Us
So, you contact the pros at Moss-Marlow Building Company by filling out a contact form or giving us a call at (828) 328-2333. Our helpful staff will answer any questions you may have and connect you with someone from our Sales Team to schedule your first appointment!
3. Initial Consultation
Someone from our Sales Team will meet with you at our office (or will schedule a virtual meeting if preferred) to listen to your ideas and review any preliminary plans you may have for your new home. This is a completely FREE consultation to introduce you to our company, answer any questions you may have and give you a chance to see if you think we’re a good fit for each other. We will listen intently while you communicate your goals for your new home and we will be able to evaluate realistic budget expectations, timeframes, and solutions. If needed or requested, we will also make a visit to your property to provide our professional assessment of what type of home and/or size would work best with the lot topography.
Following this meeting we will determine an appropriate Design Fee based on the projected scope of design work and present you with a Design Agreement for approval.
4. Design Phase
Once you’ve decided it’s time to move forward and begin this exciting journey, we'll enter into a Design Agreement and get to work. Our Design Team will meet with you at our office (or virtually) to ask any follow-up questions they may have in order to begin designing a detailed plan. They will work with you to create a custom set of plans that capture the vision you have for your home and that fall within the desired budget you have shared with us.
5. Design Review & Revisions
Upon presentation of your initial drawings, you will carefully review these custom plans designed specifically to address your identified goals and desires. Floor plans and elevations will allow you to visualize your new home and based on your feedback, our Design Team will make any necessary adjustments to the plans.
Once all final changes have been approved and you are comfortable moving forward with the plans and elevations, we will move on to the Selections Phase.
6. Selections Phase
During this next important phase you will work closely with our Interior Designer, who will use her expertise to advise you and give you the confidence needed to make all of the selections required to finalize every detail of your project - things like cabinets, counter tops, flooring, fixtures, doors & windows, etc. We will hold an initial meeting at our office and utilize our own showroom to view actual product samples, and we will also put together an agenda (based on your availability) for you to visit the showrooms of our many excellent material suppliers.
7. Detailed Estimate & Construction Agreement
After plans are finalized and selections are made, our Estimating Team will be hard at work getting quotes for all of your selected products and materials. Upon receipt of this information we will create and present a detailed estimate to build your new custom home.
If you are satisfied with everything done to this point and you are comfortable moving forward with the plan as priced, we will execute the Construction Agreement. This agreement provides details for the project timeline, payment schedule, approved specifications, drawings and final budget for the project.
8. Construction Phase
Once we have an executed Construction Agreement to build your home, things will progress quickly. As soon as required permits and approvals are in hand and materials have been ordered, we will break ground and begin working to turn your dream into a reality. Along the way you will have access to your production schedule via our project management software’s client portal and you will be able to monitor progress via daily job log notes and job site photos. And don’t forget – your Moss-Marlow team will be there with you every step of the way to oversee your project through its completion!
9. The Big Reveal
At last you get to see your beautiful new home! However our services don’t stop there – a one-year warranty will give you the peace of mind that we’re still behind you and if something is not right our team won’t stop working for you until it is.
